This is a follow-up thread to the Kameons vs. Hogwarts thread which explains the differences between the schools and purely the schools. This thread delves a little more into actual "magical world" differences, such as government, currency, and creatures. Once more, if you're looking for information about the school itself, please click here to be redirected.[/i][/u] More of a curse than a spell; maceptum clouds the head of the victim with bad memories.
American Magical Agency [AMA]: The United States has no Ministry of Magic, or foolish, living-in-a-river-in-Egypt Minister. Just like the muggle government, magical Americans have an agency that enforces law-abiding procedures. The current president of the magical agency, President Whitton, works hand in hand with the current president of the muggle world to assure that both worlds are safe from harm and working in a civil manner. Just as in muggle America, the president is voted in by the people.
Coinage: We never pay for our pants with pounds or euros in the US. Nor should Americans use the same wizarding coinage. A lot of people store the belief that no-no-no, that coinage is universal, but ahhh... I'm taking my creative license and changing it.
Equivalent to 50 dollars: 1 gold
Equivalent to 10 dollars: 1 nittick (half sterling/half gold)
Equivalent to 1 dollar: 1 sterling (silver)
Equivalent to a quarter: 1 silver
Equivalent to a dime: 1 pewter
Equivalent to a penny: 1 copper
There are no nickels, no five dollar bills, no ten dollars bills! What you see is all there is. I haven't invented a sign, but it works the same way you order something in British wizarding coinage. "That will be three nittick and a silver, please."
Example: If something costs $56.89 muggle, it's 1 gold, six sterling, 8 pewter and nine copper magical.
Underage Wizardry Laws: I haven't completely defined them yet (I will) but the whole 'No Magic Outside of School' idea doesn't exist in the U.S., I promise you that.
Magical Items Registry: In America, the AMA tries very hard to keep track of every magical item in existence. Thus, it's completely impossible. There are all sorts of things out there existing that the AMA hardly knows of, items passed on through generation after generation. Your students may have some of these. It's no surprise!
